Greater Goodna encompasses Ipswich's eastern suburbs from Six Mile Creek in the west to the Brisbane City boundary in the east. It comprises 15 suburbs and its history goes back to 1823 when John Oxley was the first white man to sail up the Brisbane River to Termination Hill at the mouth of Woogaroo Creek, Goodna. One of the first residents of the Greater Goodna area was James Josey. Goodna was proclaimed a township in 1856 when it was still part of New South Wales, prior to separation in 1859.
